We work in mild steel, stainless steel, Aluminium and glass to deliver safe, durable and compliant systems for stairs, balconies, ramps and walkways. Surveys, detailing, coatings and installation are handled by one accountable team to keep your project on track.
Made-to-Measure Systems
Every project begins with a clear brief and accurate dimensions. We can survey, confirm substrates and load criteria, and agree the look and feel – from minimalist stainless steel balustrades for modern interiors to robust steel balcony rails for exposed external locations. In-house fabrication lets us control tolerances, produce complex geometries and deliver clean junctions at landings, corners and terminations, so your system aligns with the architecture and fits first time.
Materials and Finishes
Mild steel is a versatile, cost-effective choice for internal and external schemes. It can be hot-dip galvanised for corrosion protection and powder-coated in RAL colours to coordinate with surrounding finishes. For premium appearance or coastal durability, choose stainless steel: grade 304 for internal spaces and grade 316 for external or marine-adjacent locations. Brushed (satin) stainless reduces glare and fingerprints; mirror polish suits feature stairs and lobbies. For maximum light and visibility, glass and stainless balustrade systems pair toughened or laminated glass with discreet posts or frameless channel fixings.
Applications: Stairs, Balconies, Ramps, Walkways
We deliver stair handrail installation in residential properties, glass balustrades for office atriums and retail spaces, stainless balustrades for hotels and education, and hard-wearing guardrails for industrial mezzanines, plant decks and maintenance walkways. We recently designed a new handrail system for a 4 story office building in London – see the project for photos and details.
External works include Juliet and full balconies, terraces, garden steps, ramps and public realm edges. Each application is engineered to appropriate loads and detailing for safe everyday use.
Design and Compliance
We can work to your drawings or provide a bespoke design when details need refinement. Handrail heights, gaps and loadings are set to meet current regulations and good practice. Fixings are specified for concrete, steel or timber substrates. Terminations reduce snagging and improve user comfort. For glass, we recommend toughened or laminated make-ups with the right thickness and edge finish for the use case. Method statements and risk assessments are issued in advance and permits for hot works and access are managed on site.
Specification Options
Choose the specification that fits your space, usage and aesthetic:
- Materials: mild steel, stainless steel (304 or 316), glass
- Locations: internal stairs and landings; external balconies and terraces; ramps, walkways, roof edges
- Styles: post and rail; framed glass; button-fixed glass; base-channel/frameless; vertical bar; perforated metal infill
- Finishes: powder-coated RAL colours; hot-dip galvanised; brushed or mirror-polished stainless
- Fixings: surface mount with cover plates; side-fix to stringers or slab edges; core-drilled sockets; bespoke brackets
- Enhancements: warm-to-touch sleeves; tactile indicators; LED-ready handrails; matching gates; access control provisions
Handrail Installation Done Right
Accurate stair handrail installation depends on measurement and sequence. We verify dimensions before fabrication, coordinate with stringers, nosings and wall linings, and set bracket positions for consistent grip and clearance. Components arrive labelled and protected; fixings are installed to manufacturer specifications; alignment and levels are checked against the agreed datum. On occupied sites, we phase works to minimise disruption and maintain safe access.
Stainless Steel Balustrades
Stainless balustrades offer clean lines and long service life in public and high-traffic areas. We typically use grade 304 internally and 316 externally or near the coast, with a brushed finish for easy upkeep or mirror polish for statement spaces. Posts, rails, clamps and fixings are coordinated to avoid bimetal corrosion. We provide simple maintenance guidance to keep surfaces looking their best.
Glass and Stainless Balustrade Options
Glass can transform circulation spaces by maximising light without compromising safety. Choose toughened or laminated panels with polished edges; low-iron for true colour; frosted or tinted for privacy. Depending on aesthetics and loading, we deliver framed glass, button-fixed panels or frameless base-channel systems with stainless top rails and discreet brackets. Drainage, capping and weathering details are considered early to protect finishes and structure.
Durability and Aftercare
External metalwork benefits from the right protection. Hot-dip galvanising provides long-term corrosion resistance for mild steel. Powder coating adds an architectural finish in your chosen RAL colour. For harsh environments, a dual system (galvanised plus powder-coated) improves resilience. At handover, you receive guidance for cleaning glass, caring for stainless and maintaining coatings.
Process and Programme
Consultation and survey establish scope, constraints and timescales. Design and detailing convert the concept into buildable drawings with confirmed materials, fixings and finishes. Fabrication follows controlled cutting, drilling, welding and assembly, with trial fit-ups where geometry is complex. Installation is sequenced with other trades and supported by RAMS, permits and daily briefings. Handover includes documentation, clean down and quick close-out of snags.
Typical Applications
- Domestic: stair and landing balustrades; Juliet and full balconies; garden steps and patio rails
- Commercial: office atriums; retail stairs; hotels; schools and healthcare circulation
- Industrial: mezzanines; platforms; machinery guards; service walkways; loading edges
Quality Assurance and Traceability
Materials are traceable, welds and dimensions are inspected, and finishes are checked prior to despatch. On site, we complete QA sign-offs with your team. If you need periodic inspection, maintenance or repairs, we can support that too.
